The handle piece contributes considerably to the operating comfort of the release due to shape, and is available either as standard handle-, butterfly handle, bell-shaped handle or professional handle. To improve the operating comfort when working with long exposure times, it is mostly equipped with a release locking device, which either as locking screw type or spherical brake type type retains the trigger in its release position during the exposure time.

For consecutive exposures with long exposure times, the use of a spherical brake is recommended. Unlike the locking screw, it retains the trigger in its released position after the release of the shutter until the operator puts it back to its normal operating position.
